HSBC/HKU Business Case Competition 2023 Asia Pacific
Competition Format:
The Competition will take place over 2 rounds.
Preparation Rules Round 1
PR1-1. Participants are allowed to use any and all publicly available materials. This includes online as well as offline materials.
PR1-2. During the competition, students are only allowed to discuss the case with their group members. Case related discussion with coaches, teachers, company executives, friends and family is not allowed until after each round.
PR1-3. Students are allowed to use collaboration software such as Google Docs or similar during the case preparation.
PR1-4. All slides should be handwritten and imported into pdf format with a file size less than 25MB.
PR1-5. Students should submit their deck in ppt or pdf file format on or before the time set by the organizer.
PR1-6. The ppt or pdf file submitted will be the one used during the presentation. No additional slides or modification to the slides will be allowed after submission.
PR1-7. The submitted presentation may include back up slides with additional details that will not be used during the presentation but may be used for the Q&A session if necessary.
PR1-8. Students must use the competition template slide as the opening slide of their deck. The template will be provided by ACRC.
Preparation Rules Final Round
PR2-1. Computers are not allowed in both the preparation rooms and the presentation rooms. This includes tablets, notebooks, iPads, PDAs, and all other electronic memory devices.
PR2-2. Reference material (other than material provided by the Asia Case Research Centre) is not allowed.
PR2-3. Mobile phones and all mobile communication devices must be switched\ off from the start of each round’s preparation session to the end of each round’s presentation session.
PR2-4. No personal stationery item is allowed.
Presentation Rules for Round 1 and 2
R-1Laser pointers and similar presentation devices are not allowed.
Other Rules
OR-1. Participants in the competition must not be in contact with any party other than fellow team members (including coaches or other participants) and their student ambassador, through any means, from the start of each round’s preparation session to the end of each round’s presentation session.
OR-2. All participants should stay on 22 April at the HSBC Main Building to attend the presentations by the other teams. Special events will be organized for teams that have been eliminated from the competition, to be held while the other teams prepare
OR-3. Participants should at all times follow the instructions of the organizers
OR-4. Participants should reach all venues in a timely manner as per schedule.
OR-5. Participants who wish to shake hands with the judges must do so immediately upon entering the venue. No additional time will be provided if teams are late for their presentation. If teams have not started the presentation by 10 minutes after the scheduled time, the team will automatically be disqualified from the competition.
OR-6. All team members are required to participate at least once in their respective presentation(s).
OR-7. Team members that have not participated in at least one presentation are ineligible for any prize or certificate of participation.
OR-8. If one team member is sick or otherwise unable to participate, the team can continue as a team of three. A team that has fewer than three members has to forfeit.
OR-9. All teams must attend all rounds of competition, either as participants or observers.
OR-10. All teams must attend all the non-competition events marked on the schedule including team building events, company visits and dinners.
OR-11. Each team must have a coach accompanying it to Hong Kong and the competition unless the Asia Case Research Centre has granted prior written approval.
OR-12. Teams or team members who fail to comply with the competition rules will be disqualified.
OR-13. If disputes occur, the decision of the Asia Case Research Centre shall be final.
OR-14. The preparation and presentation times for teams may be amended at any time by the Asia Case Research Centre.
OR-15. If in doubt about any of the rules, participants should consult a member of Asia Case Research Centre.
